Dr. Fenn has performed countless oral surgical procedures on patients in order to restore their smiles back to optimal oral health.
Whether you require tooth extraction or replacement with a dental implant procedure, root canal therapy to save an infected tooth, or to restore the gums back to health – Dr. Fenn would be happy to help you.
Dental implants are the most ideal choice of tooth replacement because they essentially look, feel and function just like a natural tooth. The implant itself resembles a screw, and essentially acts as an artificial tooth root, in which an artificial tooth is attached.
To prepare for a dental implant, bone grafting may be necessary to ensure there is enough bone mass to support the implant. Once the jaw is prepared for the procedure, the dental implant will be surgically implanted into the jaw and will merge with the bone over a few months (a process referred to as “osseointegration”). Once the implant has successfully integrated with the jaw, the artificial replacement tooth can be secured to the implant, and the procedure is complete.
Because dental implants are implanted into the jaw and permanently become one with the bone, they are capable of lasting a lifetime with adequate care. Restorations with dental implants also help to prevent future oral complications like the shifting of teeth or premature aging of the face due to loss of jaw bone mass.
Our highly skilled Toronto dentist is experienced with performing root canal (endodontic) treatment on patients in order to save infected or deceased teeth from requiring extraction, as well as the potential complications that come with losing a tooth, such as those mentioned above
During a root canal therapy procedure, our dentist will start by applying local anesthesia to the area to numb it from any pain. Then, a conservative opening will be made in the tooth to access the infected or dead pulp tissue in the roots of the tooth, and tiny handheld tools will be used to clean the pulp out and disinfect the roots. Finally, the roots are filled with a biocompatible material called “gutta percha”, and the tooth opening is sealed off with a permanent filling material. The tooth will then typically receive a custom-made tooth-resembling crown to restore its look and function, and to help strengthen it and protect it from future damage.
Dental extractions are unfortunately required once a patient’s natural tooth has become infected to the point where it cannot be restored with a filling or saved with root canal treatment. Luckily, Dr. Fenn is experienced in performing painless tooth extractions and will recommend the best next step to restoring the missing tooth.
